Important Transport Canada Updateđ
â ď¸ Effective April 1, 2026 Transport Canada updated the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) requirements; Applicants must complete a skills test within 12 months of the application and demonstrate the knowledge and skill to act as pilot-in-command of a multi-engine aircraft requiring a co-pilot. Those who donât meet these requirements will receive a restricted ATPL.
Applicants can obtain a restricted ATPL by completing a Group 1 Instrument Rating flight test, Group 1 Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC), PPC/PCC operated single pilot in a certified single pilot, multi-engine aircraft. The pilot's licence will have a remark stating âSkill test does not meet ICAO requirements.â This remark is removed when the holder completes the PPC as PIC in the required two-crew certified aircraft.
To obtain an unrestricted ATPL, applicants must successfully complete a Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC) as PIC in a two-crew certified aircraft (e.g., Dash 8 Q400, Boeing 737). The PPC must be done in the aircraft, or a level C or D full flight simulator (FFS). Since Transport Canada requires most training in two-crew aircraft to be done in an FFS, pilots can expect to do their PPC in a FFS.

âAfter two unsuccessful attempts when self-studying, I attended the IFR ground school course in Ottawa this year with Rob, â it was a great course. I scored 90% on my INRAT 3 days after the course!" â Renan Aâ

"I found the course extremely helpful in preparing me for the Saron and Samra exams. I studied quite hard before before attending the course, but I was at the point where I didnât know what I didnât know. The Aerocourse really focused my studying on specific subjects before writing the exams. I found all the information that you taught was extremely relevant with the information on the exam. "

Rob
"I just completed the Saron, 85%! Rob your instruction was great, if you didn't know an answer, you'd find it."

"On behalf of my class, I like to thank AeroCourse for all the help your organization has given to us. From INRAT with Rob, IATRA with Jessica and Francis, and CRM with Jared. We've developed greatly as pilots through your courses, and will definitely recommend your organization to future upcoming pilots."

"I am writing today to express my satisfaction with the Aerocourse seminar. I found Bruce to be an engaging and knowledgeable instructor with a passion for aviation. Soon after completing the seminar I wrote both exams and passed both by a large margin. I credit the Aerocourse to a good part of my final results."
